Bittersweet news coming at you in 5..4..3..we’re all always in a waiting season of some sort.
Life is full of waiting seasons. And although we may all be waiting on something different, waiting seasons suck for everyone. The good news to the bittersweet news is that waiting seasons are actually an opportune time for growth.
It’s in the moments where we feel the most idle and uncertain that we pray a little harder and reach out to God more. The panic that comes with uncertainty and not having control is one that most of us hate to experience. But beautiful life lessons and growth tend to spring up from surrendering to the weight of a waiting season.
Without continuing to ramble, here are 4 things I learned to master in order to thrive in a waiting season.
Thriving In A Waiting Season
I use the term “master” very loosely because we should always stay in a heart posture of being teachable. But I have been able to learn a lot about myself in my seasons of being in God’s waiting room. And of course, the things we learn are contingent upon our own lives and situations.
Learning How To Dating Myself
If you don’t already know, I’m a huge fan of dating yourself. I have multiple blog posts and pins dedicated to dating yourself and self-love.
I truly believe there are so many benefits to dating yourself, no matter what your relationship status is. But especially before you meet your forever person. If you just so happen to find yourself in the waiting room of finding your forever person, this is a good time to start dating yourself.
I like to approach dating myself the same way I would if I were dating a new person. That means figuring out what I like: my favorite food spots, activities, vibes and everything else that brings me joy. The benefit of doing this is that you not only learn more about yourself, but you have this information to share when that someone special comes along.
The entire point of dating yourself is to know yourself better. The good, the bad and the side of you that might even have God giving you the bombastic side eye. 🤨
Time To Heal
Aside from dating yourself in the waiting room, I like to use the time like I would if I were in the doctor’s waiting room. I like to use the waiting time to take inventory over everything I need to ask the doctor to heal.
When we are in God’s waiting room, we’re waiting on God to take us to our next level. Whether that is in our relationships, finances, careers or anything else. But in order to be taken to the next level, God often has to make sure we’re not carrying baggage or trauma from our past that could be a detriment to our next.
So that makes the waiting room an ideal time to ask God for help in your healing.
Weight of A Waiting Season
There is a certain pressure and weight that comes with seasons of waiting. As mentioned above, the uncertainty of not having control can be scary. But God uses this time to draw us closer to Him.
Learning God’s Voice
I love being a radical child of God because I like keeping it real. With that being said, I’m going to keep it real. If God gave me everything my heart desired exactly when I wanted it, I wouldn’t feel the need to stay sensitive to what He’s doing. I wouldn’t take my faith journey as serious, and I most certainly wouldn’t put in the efforts to maintain it.
That’s the truth and I’m glad we got that out of the way.
When we don’t have to work hard at things, we naturally take them for granted. If going into a test, you knew you’d get an A, you wouldn’t study for it. The same goes for our relationship with God. We know in order to maintain it; we must also do our part.
In the waiting room, there’s a stillness and quietness that takes place. And as uncomfortable as it is, it’s also the perfect time to learn God’s voice and His character.
I use my waiting time to carve out precious quality time with the Holy Spirit. This includes reading/studying my bible, devotionals, sermons, faith-based podcasts and journaling.
In our walk with the Lord, it is crucial that we learn His voice for ourselves.
Plan The Next Steps
This can pertain to just about anything you’re waiting on. Babies, marriage, career moves, relocating, etc.
Knowing the voice of God is so vital in this season because we need to include God in our plans. We have to partner with God in the planning or our plans will more than likely fall apart.
