Most of us aren’t trying to picture summer ending right now, but we all may experience the end of summer blues at different points in time.

Transitions between any season can often leave us feeling a little sad and depleted. Whether it’s a climate-based season or spiritual season. However you want to look at it, it’s vital to get ahead of that sadness with different activities and tricks.

With that being said, I think it’s important to eat the chicken and spit the bones out on this topic. In other words, take what you need and leave what you don’t bestie.

I personally do a number of things to get ahead of my end of summer blues because it’s something I struggle with every year.

Getting Ahead of End of Summer Blues

Summer is like your favorite friend that you don’t get to see often because they live across the country. You just can’t seem to get enough time with them before it’s time for them to go back home.

But no need to worry, here are some tips to help you get ahead of that end of season transition.

Shop For Fall Decor

Or whatever season is next up for that matter. I’m an Autumn girl, and I promise it’s not just because I’m an Autumn baby. I love the beauty of Autumn. The foliage, scents, activities and we stan sweater weather. So, I love doing early shopping for Fall decorations. Turning my apartment into it’s own Fall sanctuary is the highlight of the season for me. Even if I only get a full two weeks of Autumn in Chicago.

Throw An End of Summer Event

Hear me out, a good party never hurt anybody. Recently I’ve discovered how much I love hosting. I love the challenge of a good theme and I overall love making people feel special. At the end of the summer, I like to host a Fall themed brunch and invite my friends. It gives me the opportunity to showcase my new Fall decorations mentioned above and it’s something to look forward to at the end of the season.

If you’re feeling that end of season blues, chances are the people around you are as well. It’ll give everyone something to prepare for and look forward to every year. And once everyone is excited about the event, it allows them to take their mind off of things. It doesn’t even have to be Autumn themed, give your summer decorations one last hurrah. Or have a bonfire. Nothing says end of the summer like a bonfire with your besties. Because why not throw a party to celebrate the end of a season and coming of a new season?

Plan Next Season Activities

Despite the sadness that comes along with the end of a season, there’s a certain excitement that comes along with planning for the next one. The days might be getting shorter and the air a little more crisp, but you know what that means? Pumpkin patches, apple picking and hay rides! This is the perfect time to get an Autumn bucket list going.

Other Meaningful Activities

Now that we’ve gotten the pre-Autumn things we can do out of the way, let’s discuss some other things we can do.

Travel Plans

Summer is a popular season for travelers for various reasons. But mostly because it’s easier to enjoy different cities and travel experiences when the weather is more likely to be nice. Although the weather may not be 90 degrees at the end of the season, it’s still possible to get one last end of summer trip in. Whether it’s a full on vacation or just a weekend getaway or staycation in your city. Summer may be coming to a close, but your travel plans don’t have to.

And if you’re all traveled out or broke from all of your summer adventures, it’s still the perfect time to make travel plans for next year.

Clean and Donate

Ever heard of Spring cleaning? Well the same still applies for the transition between every season. I like cleaning out my closet between seasons. It gives me the opportunity to create more space in my closet and in my mind. Aside from that, I get to donate clothes and other things to someone in need of them. It all around keeps your heart and head feeling lighter.

Keep Summer Keepsakes

By far my favorite thing to do at the end of the summer, which is why I saved the best for last. This one is fun because you get to collect a bunch of things from your summer adventures and reflect on them at the end of the season. I like keeping things like movie/concert stubs, festival bracelets, photographs of course and anything else you collect. It’s a good way to reflect on and keep track of all the fun things you did over the summer. And as your end of the summer blues starts to kick in, it’s a reminder that you maximized the season. It also serves as motivation to get out and do more!
